Stop the federal education monster in its tracks and return education policy to the states and local governments - and parents.

As the husband of a former teacher and father of a current teacher, I know the value of sound education policy. Our current education system is failing future generations of Americans. In order to remain competitive in an ever-expanding global economy, we must provide our children access to high-quality educational opportunities and I believe that happens best at the local level. Education reforms need to revolve around competition and free-market principles. That is why I am a proponent of school vouchers, local control, merit-based pay for teachers and oppose the Common Core standards imposed by the federal government. When the federal government decides that they have a new "one size fits all" policy, it bypasses our state's sovereignty, which ultimately fails our students. The federal government's role in our education system should be secondary to the states and local town's ability to decide what is best for their communities.
